DVDs and Region Specific Crap

So this is how all these brilliant entertainment companies work to get
customers. I saw a little bit of the movies called Corto Maltese: La Cour
Secrete Des Arcanes" on the Star Movies and fell in love with it. So I
started looking for it. Its French, so I found it only on Amazon France.
Now, I don't understand French, so it took me some time so figure out how to
get the order placed, but I mamaged it somehow. It arrived a few days later
and I happily opened it up, planning to watch it on my laptop.
And here the true brilliance of the worlds greatest entertainment giants was
revealed to me in its full, naked glory! Because I cannot play the French
movie on my American laptop, sitting in India! You see, these wise and
amazing entertainment giants have decided that Western Europe and America
are different "regions" and a DVD manufactured in one region should not be
allowed to play in another zone! It's a piracy avoiding measure, you see.
How does it stop piracy? No one knows, because IT DOES NOT STOP PIRACY.
On the other hand, it ensures that honest people, like me, get screwed.
Thank dog I have a region-free DVD player at home, but don't tell anyone,
because for all I know, I might be breaking the law!
