Superstar S!

When S decided to hold a workshop on some pottery techniques, we all really encouraged her to go whole hog for it, and so she printed posters, called up people, posted on orkut, and generally went around trying to drum up some interest in the whole thing. Orkut was impressive - my guess is myspace is primarily an American phenomenon or alternatively, Orkut is definitely an Indian in-thing - she got about 8-9 people interested and or registering through Orkut.
She made me write up a small 2 para piece, which she then sent to Deccan Herald, it appeared and then, suddenly from 7:45 in the morning till about 2:00 in the afternoon, she was attending to phone calls! I proudly announced to everyone in office that S is now a superstar and everytime she appeared in office, they ought to kiss her... hand. :)
Some lessons to draw here:
  • Print in not dead! In fact it is way more alive than the Internet, at least in India.
  • The response to print information is like a slashdotting - intense but spiked. Most of the interest was exhibited until 2 in the afternoon and then there was a lull, before it started again at 5 in the evening until 7 at night.
  • Deccan Herald is a good newspaper for Bglr in terms of readership.
